Bioethanol fireplace safety

Bioethanol fireplaces use an open flame and highly flammable fuel. This overview does not replace the installation and operating instructions for the specific model or any necessary professional assessment of the installation location.

Before buying and installing

Check the permitted use, room size and ventilation, safety clearances, fixings, and the fuel and accessories approved by the manufacturer. Follow local fire safety regulations. Ask us for the relevant documentation if any information is missing.

Air quality and ventilation

Burning bioethanol can produce carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, very fine particles and other combustion products as well as carbon dioxide. Provide the fresh air supply required by the instructions. An appliance without a flue connection must not be used as permanent room heating.

Safe operation

• Never add fuel to a burning or hot burner. The appliance must be switched off and completely cool.
• Follow the maximum fill level and all waiting times in the instructions.
• Never leave a flame unattended; keep children and pets away.
• Do not move the appliance during use. Keep combustible items outside the specified safety clearances.
• Use only suitable fuel and store it according to its label and safety data sheet.
• Extinguish the flame using the specified method; do not extinguish it with water.

Installation in Switzerland

BFB guidance requires a flue system for fuel consumption of at least 0.3 L/h or rated heat output above 2 kW. Have your model’s consumption, output and installation conditions professionally checked before purchase. A blanket promise that neither a flue nor an approval is needed is not possible.
